- The history of Air Jordan 12 Playoff:
Tinker Hatfield pays an incredible amount of detail with his footwear designs, so let’s take a look at some of exciting details of the Air Jordan XII as we gear up for this Saturday’s release of the ‘Playoffs’ colorway. Inspired by the land of the Rising Sun, Tinker placed pronounced grooves on the upper with stitches to create that ‘Rising Sun’ effect. Tinker further stylized the Air Jordan XII, which was also inspired by a 19th century woman’s dress boot, but placed an embossed lizard-skin material at the mudguard, which also spilled to the forefoot portion of the midsole. Additional accents like the silver-plated lace-rings on the upper gave the shoe a bit of a luxurious touch, while the visible carbon fiber plated on the outsole carried on the design function that first arrived with its predecessor – the Air Jordan XI. Finishing off the design was a plethora of Jordan insignia around the shoe, like the Jumpman stamped at the toe and the ’23′ at the ‘bumper’ of the heel. A true beauty to behold is the Air Jordan XII, so take a look at the gallery of these fine details below and let us know if you’ll have the ‘Playoffs’ on your feet this weekend.
With the 2012 NBA Playoffs right around the corner it only seems fitting that Jordan Brand is prepping to retro a classic ‘Playoffs’ colorway from the Air Jordan line. Think of it as a reminder of sorts, lest the younger generation lose sight of the dominance displayed by MJ in his heyday. The Air Jordan XII ‘Playoffs’ actually first showed up at the 1997 NBA All-Star Game, wherein Michael made them look good while also making history with the first triple-double in the history of the game. The sneakers of course again popped up on Michael’s feet during the Bull’s post-season bid of that same year, one that ended in yet another championship for the squad and landed Michael Jordan smack dab in the middle of another three-peat. The Bulls’ finals matchup against Karl Malone and the Utah Jazz saw Michael laughing in the face of detractors who touted the season as one where his age would begin to show, with Chicago emerging victorious in six games and MJ adding another Finals MVP Award to his resume to go with his new hardware.
Attention: This is not a real shoe, you CANNOT wear it.
